Mirfield Stags suffered their first League defeat of the season at the hands of Drighlington on Saturday.
The sides had met twice previously, with the Stags edging matters on both occasions, including victory in December’s Yorkshire Cup Final.
But the third and final meeting of the season went the way of our opponents, who overturned a half-time deficit to emerge winners.
The match was moved to the 3G pitch at Dewsbury Rams’ Tetley’s Stadium due to poor field conditions at the Stags’ usual Hillrich Park home.
Ben Cole (sponsored by Delta Electrical UK) crashed over for two tries from short range as Mirfield overcame a slow start to take the lead.
Scott Bradley (sponsored by The New Inn, Roberttown) added four points, while Mikey Otty (sponsored by Park House Security & Electrical) and Craig Miles (sponsored by Delta Electrical UK) also crossed.
Wayne Wilson (sponsored by Tominay Stone Masonry) kicked two goals from five attempts in windy conditions, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat against a hungry Drig outfit.
The defeat sets up a potential winner-takes-all encounter with second-placed Upton at their Quarry Lane home on 14 March.
