Mirfield Stags head coach Richard Silverwood says his players are relishing the challenge of the final four games of the season as they aim to maintain their unbeaten run in Pennine League Division One and win the title.

The Stags have won all eight of their league fixtures, though nearest rivals Upton have lost just once, so Silverwood knows there is no room for complacency.

He said: “Saturday was another one ticked off and we were delighted to get the victory against Sharlston.

“Its never an easy place to go and, with this being the first game Brad Delaney was missing. you do worry going into the game, as we only had one recognised half-back.

“But I was delighted with how Omar Alrawi stepped up and controlled both sides of the field, and he cleaned up with both the coach’s and players’ man of the match awards.”

The Stags next challenge awaits on Saturday, when they face Illingworth at home.

It offers a chance for retribution following Mirfield’s only defeat of the season so far, which came against the Calderdale club in the League Cup earlier this month.

“This leaves us now with a clear objective. We have four games remaining, and with four victories we can secure the title and a place in the Challenge Cup for 2021.

“The games remaining are very tough games indeed, starting this week against Illingworth, the only team to beat us this year, so the lads I hope are fired up to get revenge.

“Any support is welcome up at Hillrich Park this Saturday as we hope to take another giant step towards our goal.

“I’d also like to say a big thank you to HYM Joinery & Contracting for their sponsorship of Saturday’s game.

“We’re grateful to all of our partners, large and small, for their backing of the club.”
