Mirfield Stags head coach Richard Silverwood says he’s delighted to enter the upcoming break for Christmas, ahead of their appearance in the Yorkshire Cup Final, on a winning note.
The Stags secured a tenth consecutive victory in all competitions after crossing for ten tries against Almondbury on the facilities at Dewsbury Rams’ Tetley’s Stadium.
Silverwood said: “As we wrap up our league campaign for the Christmas break, it was great to get a good win over Almondbury and take our unbeaten run into the Final on 29 December.
“To play on a fast pitch at Dewsbury Rams, and not get bogged down with muddy pitches, was great and our players certainly enjoyed themselves.
“Each week we are working on our attack and I thought after a scratchy first half we kept things simple in the second half and the points flowed.”
The Stags boss reserved praise for the returning Wayne Jowett, as well as half-back pair Omar Alrawi and Brad Delaney, whose creative combination continues to blossom.
“I was really pleased with our middles again, who really took some stopping, and to have Wayne Jowett back, and passing this test so he is available for the final, was pleasing.
“I also think Brad and Omar are starting to work better together each week.
“Omar has played on the wing for most of his career, but he has all the qualities to play six and his performances over the last few weeks have been great.”
Following the win, attention can now turn to the Yorkshire Cup Final showdown with Drighlington at Featherstone’s LD Nutrition on Sunday 29th December.
Silverwood confirmed: “Our priority now is to continue our build-up to the final on the 29th with a couple more sessions planned, and already the lads are buzzing to play.
“I hope to see a good following over at Featherstone and hopefully make it a special day.
“And from myself and the players I’d like to wish everyone connected with Mirfield Stags a Merry Christmas – see you on the 29th. Up the Stags!”
