Mirfield Stags head coach Richard Silverwood has reflected on Saturday’s win against Hanging Heaton and admits there were positives and negatives to take from the performance.
The Stags emerged victorious thanks to a dominant first half display, but they were unable to continue their momentum after the break, which Silverwood partly attributes to a poor completion rate.
He said: “We were pleased to get the win against our local rivals, but watching the game back we were very sloppy, especially in that second half.
“We had a 42% completion rate after half-time, which isn’t good enough, and we need to improve with the ball in hand if we are to progress to the Yorkshire Cup Final.”
Mirfield face Doncaster Toll Bar in the semi-final of the competition this Saturday.
Silverwood added: “This week is massive for the club.
“To get to the final would be unbelievable for us and I hope the lads have a real focus this week.
“Defensively, we have been great the last few weeks and if we can improve our ball control and take better options then I think we will take some beating.”
The Stags boss is hopeful that his players will be able to count on the backing of a vociferous home support as they prepare for another big test.
“Hopefully we can get a good crowd up to Hillrich Park on Saturday and they can help push the lads through to that final on 29th December.”
