Mirfield Stags stretched their advantage at the top of Pennine League Division One to four points with a hard-fought victory against Sharlston.

Both sides faced tough conditions at Hillrich Park following heavy rain during the week, but the hosts had the edge in attack and established a winning platform at the break before sealing victory.

The Stags posted tries through Dom Flanagan (sponsored by Charles Speight Architectural Design), Scott Bradley (sponsored by The New Inn, Roberttown) and Connor Squires (sponsored by Delta Electrical UK), who grabbed a brace.

Squires and Flanagan also added a conversion each to help the Stags edge their way to victory against a tough Sharlston side.

The win takes Mirfield’s unbeaten run in league and cup fixtures to seven games and sees them move further clear at the top of the ladder, although second-placed Upton have a game in hand.
