Mirfield Stags head coach Richard Silverwood has delivered an update following the first month of pre-season training.

After a successful signing-on night, the players are being put through their paces ahead of the start of the Pennine League campaign.

Silverwood said: “Training has been great, especially considering the odd bad evening we’ve had with the weather.

“We just want the games to start now. You can only train for so long before players want to play.”

The Stags boss also noted that a large percentage of his squad are forwards.

He added: “One observation so far is that we’ve attracted a lot of forwards to our squad, with a much smaller number of backs.

“So, whilst we’re always on the look out for new players in all positions, we’re particularly keen on recruiting full-backs, centres, wingers and half-backs.

“So, if you fancy a run-out over the winter season then get yourself down to training on Wednesdays from 6.45pm.”
